This part is a common point for leaks on your VW 2.0 engine. The coolant flange is located on the Drivers side of the cylinder head. It is commonly believed that this part is a thermostat housing. This part while it may look like the may be a thermostat behind it there is not. The thermostat on this VW 2.0 engine is located on the passenger side front of the engine block, behind the water pump.
It is recommended that you replace the seal for the coolant temperature sensor WHT-006-407
