The VW and Audi TPMS system has 4 sensors that communicate with the vehicle wirelessly. Each tire pressure sensor has an internal battery which has a shelf life of around 7 years. This time frame is 7 years of use time. These OEM TPMS Sensors are not active when not on vehicle.
