From roughly 2006-2011 most VW models used the same tire pressure sensor. These sensors are mounted in each wheel and send a wireless signal into the vehicle to communicate everything is ok. The VW tire pressure monitoring sensors have internal batteries that keep them powered. On this particular sensor it is only active when the is a significant pressure drop or during driving cycles (they are activated by centrifugal force). Even being that the batteries are not always active they will die over time. Most commonly they do not go bad all at one time. You will likely have one TPMS Sensor go bad at a time. These sensors have a life of 5-7 years of use, once you are past that time you should replacing the complete set. This will ensure you have known good sensors in your vehicle.
Single Genuine VW/Audi TPMS Sensor 1K0907253D
One important note the TPMS Sensors found in the vehicle will have the part number 1K0907255C or 1K0.907.255.C this is only a casting number and is not the actual part number this item is sold under. These tpms sensors linked above will have the same numbers on them, which can be seen in the product photos.
How do you know if a sensor is bad?
The tire pressure monitoring system is a pretty basic one. It consists of the 4 TPMS sensors and a TPMS Module. These components communicate with the vehicle and that pretty much completes the system. When you have a TPMS light you should start by checking the tire pressure on each tire. These sensors are looking to have the tire pressure over 33psi. Any value below this could potentially set the tire pressure light. Once you have verified that all tires are above 33psi you can be pretty certain that you have a bad tire pressure sensor. While there could be other components causing this issue 9/10 times its going to be a bad sensor. As stated above once you get to this point you should consider replacing all 4 sensors to ensure you do not have future issues.
Do you need to reprogram these Tire Pressure Sensors?
No these do no need to be reprogrammed. These TPMS Sensors will relearn on their own. It generally takes around 15-20 minutes of consistent highway driving to have these sensors relearn to the vehicle. If you are in stop and go traffic these will not relearn. It must be a constant speed over 40-50mph.
