The MK7.5 GTI’s water pump is located at the front of the engine block, beneath the intake manifold. For inspection, the lower engine shield must be removed, allowing access to the radiator hoses that connect to the water pump and thermostat housing. Like other VW models with the 2.0T engine, the water pump is belt-driven by the balance shaft. Its thermostat housing, often prone to leaks, features an electromechanical thermostat for regulating coolant flow. While the thermostat itself is generally reliable, leaks and failures in the housing are common.
