The cam magnet is located in the upper timing cover on your engine. This part control the variable valve timing on the car by operating the spool valve. The spool valve is in the camshafts and control oil flow to the cam adjuster. Issues related to faults or running conditions in the camshaft adjustment or variable valve timing can be a result of one of these parts going back. Many customers would opt to replace the cam magnet and spool valve first, in an attempt to remedy this issue. This is because replacing the camshaft is expensive and very labor intensive.
