Tie rods connect the steering wheel of your vehicle to the wheels of your VW or Audi model. The inner tie rod mounts between the steering rack and the tie rod end (which connects the the steering knuckle). Over time the inner tie rod joint may become worn and have play in it. The easiest way to inspect for play is to jack the vehicle up, and apply a rocking motion back and forth to your tire in the directions it would turn. If you have play you likely have an issue with your tie rod. Next you will need to determine if you have inner or outer play. You should perform the same rocking motion test and look at both the inner and outer joints to see which one has the movement.
