Summary

If the intake cam fails on your 2.0t TSI VW/Audi engine you will need to  remove the valve cover/cam cage and detention the timing chains to replace the cam. Most often to do this we would advise removing the lower timing cover, as it is the easier way to do this repair.  When removing to lower timing cover(not included in kit) we advise replacing it, as it will often bend on removal causing a leak.

Alternatively you can leave the lower timing cover on and use the special tool to detention the timing chain tensioner, lock it in place and swap your TSI Intake Camshaft.  This is generally a method we recommend for more experienced users as it is possible to have the timing chains move during this process.

The install of this intake camshaft requires timing your engine.  Please take a look at this page for details related to timing a 2.0t TSI Gen1/2 VW Audi Engine.  While this install is not the same, this will help you understand what needs to be done on your vehicle.  HERE

To Perform this install you have 2 options

    1. Remove the lower timing cover which will allow you access the timing chain tensioner to detention the timing chains.  This often requires you to replace the lower timing cover (to avoid future oil leaks) as it can often get bent during remove, making it difficult to properly seal.
    2. NOT remove the lower timing cover, but instead use the special tool (linked HERE) to detention the timing chains.  This requires more skill and has more possibility of the timing chains moving and potentially causing a timing issue.  This is only recommended for more experienced people.
